Abel Tasman is a bright ribbon of golden beaches, granite headlands and clear turquoise bays at the top of the South Island. Follow the Coast Track past Kaiteriteri and look offshore for Split Apple Rock, the giant boulder cleaved neatly in two. Water taxis, sea kayaks and walking trails make this an easy place to explore from every angle.

Tucked into the top of the South Island between Tasman Bay and Golden Bay, Abel Tasman is famous for the Coastal Track, one of New Zealand's Great Walks, and for beaches so pale and water so clear it barely looks real from the ground - let alone from the air. Split Apple Rock, a giant granite boulder split cleanly in two, sits just offshore near Kaiteriteri. In Fly South, this park is built for low, slow flying: skim the shoreline at wave height, watch the water shift from teal to deep blue as the seabed drops away, then climb just enough to see the whole scalloped coastline curl toward Golden Bay.
