Hanmer Springs

Hanmer Springs is a small alpine village built around natural thermal pools, with beech forest and dry hills rising around it. Visitors come to soak, mountain-bike and walk among the pines, while the Waiau River and Lewis Pass lie close by. It makes an easy base for a day of quiet scenery or bigger backcountry routes.

About Hanmer Springs

The thermal pools here have drawn visitors since the 1850s, and the surrounding Hanmer Springs Forest Park offers walking and mountain-biking trails through mature beech forest. Valleys lead away from the village in several directions, toward the Lewis Pass, the braided Waiau River and the Canterbury foothills. In Fly South, Hanmer works well as a flexible starting point - a short hop can take you into tight alpine valleys or straight out over open farmland, depending on which way you turn.
