Mount Cook Village
Mount Cook Village feels wonderfully small beneath the enormous presence of Aoraki. The settlement sits at the end of a glacial valley where every window seems to frame another peak. It is an ideal place to feel the alpine world close up, rather than merely admire it from afar.
About Mount Cook Village
This is where Sir Edmund Hillary trained before his ascent of Everest, and the village remains the main base for climbing in the Southern Alps. It also sits within an International Dark Sky Reserve, making its night skies as notable as its daytime views. In Fly South, the village puts the high peaks immediately in front of you: climb toward the glaciers for the grand alpine view, or turn back down the valley to see the lakes and changing textures of the wider Mackenzie country.
