The Boulder Bank, a long natural breakwater, shelters Nelson's harbour, and the city's cathedral sits prominently on a hill above the compact centre. Nelson is also the natural gateway to Abel Tasman, Golden Bay and Nelson Lakes. In Fly South, this is a relaxed place to begin a northward flight: follow the shoreline around the bay, climb over wooded ranges, or head west toward the lakes and valleys where the city quickly gives way to wilderness.
