Rakiura National Park is a vast, forested refuge surrounded by the Southern Ocean. Much of Stewart Island remains wonderfully unchanged, with beaches, inlets and bush that feel gloriously removed from the mainland. It is a place for quiet wonder rather than hurried sightseeing.
About Rakiura National Park
Established in 2002, the park protects dense, largely unmodified forest and a healthy population of wild kiwi, along with dark sky sanctuary status recognising some of the clearest night skies in the country. The Rakiura Track is one of the shortest of the Great Walks. In Fly South, this is a place for an unhurried flight: stay close to the coast for inlets and beaches, or cross the forested interior beneath weather that can turn from bright to moody in minutes.
